4. ESTIMATION COST TO REGISTER GRAB DRIVER

Here is a rough estimation of cost to register as Grab Driver in Malaysia. Registration for Grab Driver is free as per above (no agent/service fee).

For PSV License, it will cost from RM80-RM200 depends on areas and driving institutes, however the maximum ceiling price for PSV License is set at RM200 by MOT (Ministry Of Transport). Medical check-up will cost around RM40-RM80 depends on clinic rate.

For E-Hailing Insurance is a little complicated as it depends on your car insurance provider rate. For instance, if your car insurance is under Grab Panel which provides Daily E-Hailing coverage, it should cost you RM1.00 - RM2.00 /day. For Insurance which is not under Grab Panel and only provide Annual E-Hailing coverage, it will cost you around RM300-400/year.

The one that will cost you the most is when your insurance companies DO NOT provide E-Hailing coverage such as TAKAFUL MALAYSIA, RHB INSURANCE, TUNE PROTECT and AIG INSURANCE. You will have to change your insurance company which may cost you a new policy quoted by your new insurance company.

For Puspakom inspection, this only applies if you car is aged 3-years and above. It will cost you RM75 on first inspection, RM25 if you failed the test and go for reinspection.

That's all it.

Assuming you are driving new car with insurance under Grab Panel. You will only have to spend RM80(PSV) + RM50(MEDICAL) = RM130 upfront cost.

Last but not least, some of the costs are CLAIMABLE! Check Reimbursement section below.

5. Get EVP accreditation from APAD (Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat)

Before you will be able to start booking passengers by means of Grab, you should first get your EVP(E-Hailing Vehicle Permit) accreditation from APAD.

How do you get them?
After you have received your PSV License. Inform and revert to your registration admin. Your registration admin will request the required details and submit your EVP application.

The cost of EVP will be RM115, but if you register as Grab Driver. This cost will be beared by Grab Malaysia.

After your registration admin revert to you, you will have to wait for 14-30 days (including weekends) for you EVP application process. After APAD has approved your EVP. You will receive SMS on your account activation. Then you can login and begin your Grab journey.

6. E-Hailing Insurance

Most insurance companies in Malaysia today has E-Hailing coverages be it Daily E-Hailing or Annual E-Hailing. All drivers are required to have E-Hailing insurance before account activation.

Unfortunately, there are 4(four) companies in Malaysia that DO NOT provide E-Hailing coverage. Below are the list:
Having said that, should your car insurance falls under one of the above companies. You will have to terminate your insurance and change to companies that provide E-Hailing coverage such as ETIQA, Kurnia, Zurich and etc.

7. PUSPAKOM E-Hailing Inspection for vehicle aged 3-years and above.

If your vehicle is less than 3-years, you DO NOT have to go for e-hailing inspection. However, if more than 3-years. You will have to go through E-Hailing inspection at your nearest Puspakom branch.

E-Hailing inspection can only be performed if you already have an activated Grab Driver account.

  1. I was a limousine driver for more than 10 years with a limousine company serving few 5 star hotels in Kuala Lumpur. I was also a Blacklane driver for 3
years and is jobless since MCO on March 2020. My contact of service was terminated in this month. The company is unable to employ us because full recovery of business in Travel & hotel to normal as before Covid-19 is unpredictable.

I am very disappointed as my age has just exceed 70 after the MCO on 19 March. My birth date in Mykad is 10-4-1950. I was born in Taiwan in 1953, and my age on immigration document was change to the said date in order to faciliate my entry into Malaya in 1958. My biological age is 67, I still own official document from the Taiwan authority stated I had registered a new date of birth before emigrant. Would you reconsider my application if I enclose my document?

I own a Bezza registered in 2016 but I will buy another new car if I am accept as Grab Driver. Currently I hold a PSV license till 10-4-2022. I am in very good health.

    Thank you
